FAQ

GENERAL QUESTIONS

  • Q: How do AmeriCool's portable A/C units work?

A: Roll your AmeriCool unit into position, select room cooling or spot cooling, stand back and enjoy the cold air! NOTE: If you are in an enclosed room, you will need to exhaust the warm air from the top of the unit out of the room. The drop ceiling space in a typical office will usually satisfy this requirement.

  • Q: How many square feet does it cool?

A: As a general practice, 400 square feet per 12,000 Btu/h's (12,000 Btu/h's equals one ton of air conditioning). This however does not take into account other room factors which may affect heat load. Contact your local distributor for a complete recommendation.

  • Q: How much temperature drop will you get between the room and supply (cold) air?

A: The temperature drop should be approximately 30°F in low humidity environments and at least 15°F in high humidity environments. (In high humidity environments, the unit is removing the humidity from the air)

  • Q: Why does the unit have a water (condensate) tank? Why does the WPC-15000 have a condensate pump?

A: Only the WPC-15000 comes with a factory installed condensate pump to account for the large amount of condensate (water) the unit is removing from the supply air.

A: While the unit is in operation it removes humidity out of the air. AmeriCool collects the condensation in the tank.

  • Q: Do AmeriCool units come with a thermostat?

A: Yes, all units come with thermostats to read supply and return air temperature.

  • Q: What is difference the between Room Cooling and Spot Cooling mode?

A: In Room Cooling mode, the temperature set point is based on the return air coming into the unit (side). In Spot Cooling mode the temperature set point is based on the supply air (cold air leaving the unit).

  • Q: What is AmeriCool's recommended maintenance schedule?

A: Regular washing and cleaning of the filters is the only recommended maintenance.

  • Q: Can I remove the white cold air ducts?

A: Yes, remove the white nozzle duct from the attached flange and there will be a grill to protect curious fingers from the fan.

INSTALLATION QUESTIONS

  • Q: My unit is plugged in, the display shows a red light on the Power button, but I can't get it to turn on?

A: You must push and hold for 1 second which mode you want the unit to operate in (Room or Spot). This 1 second delay is to prevent accidentally changing the mode the unit is operating in.

  • Q: How high can I pump the condensate water?

A: All accessory condensate pumps can pump water 18 feet high. The WPC-15000 can pump water up to 30 feet.

  • Q: Can you always duct the exhaust air into the drop ceiling?

A: Not always. Contact AmeriCool or your local distributor for examples where it would not be ideal.

  • Q: What is the farthest I can run the exhaust/cooling ducts?

A: Depends on your specific model. Click on the following link and select from the models on the AmeriCool's specification page. http://www.americoolllc.com/products.htm

  • Q. Is it possible to block one of the cooling ducts?

    A. AmeriCool does not recommend completely blocking a cold duct opening. Please call AmeriCool or your closest authorized distributor to explain your unique installation.

  • Q: Can I use a smaller exhaust duct than recommended on the accessories section of the website?

    A. No, you may overload the unit causing damage. Contact us to discuss your application.

  • Q: Is it possible to use extension cords on AmeriCool?

A: Yes, but we recommend extreme caution. Be sure to use a safety listed and 3-wire grounding type extension cord. In addition make sure the extension cord matches the voltage and current requirements of your unit.

  • Q: Can we connect a remote thermostat to AmeriCool units?

A: Yes! Order our accessory WPCSENSOR and follow the directions to install.

  • Q: Does AmeriCool have a remote display to control the unit away from the installation?

A: Yes! Order our accessory WPCREMOTE, follow the directions to install the wire harness and you can control the unit from 33 feet away!

  • Q: How much clearance from the filters is needed for the units to operate correctly?

A: For units up to 3 tons (36,000 Btu/hr) 18" of clearance is required. For our 5 ton unit (WPC-15000) 24" of clearance is required.
